Japanese diversified financial services group ORIX Corporation (TYO:8591) announced this week it has commenced the operation of a 6.5-MW geothermal power plant in Hokkaido.
The Minami-Kayabe Geothermal Power Plant, as it is named, is located in Hakodate City and is said to be the largest binary cycle geothermal plant in the country.
Orix expects the facility to produce up to 56.94 GWh of electricity per year. It lists Nippon Steel Engineering Co Ltd and Kinden Corporation as the construction companies for the power plant.
At present, Orix owns and operates another geothermal plant on the site of the Beppu Suginoi Hotel in Beppu City, Oita Prefecture, temporarily suspended due to facility updates.
