The Dwarka Expressway in NCR is the new and upcoming residential hub for many homes. This apartment, located in a rather well done Experion Windchants Residential complex is spread across 1500 sqft space. The apartment is breezy and has a clean view.
The client, a very busy doctor but super excited about the entire process of building her new home wanted the design to be modern yet keeping in mind fully that certain pieces of furniture and art which are of great sentimental value to her must move with her. Merging classic with contemporary was music to Shagun Singh, Interior Designer at Homework, as she lends her design sensibility to be “Contemporary Classic”. Starting with the formal living space where the large existing sofas had to find a space along with the old world rocking chair, she decided to add a touch of an accent on the media wall by adding these beautiful rustic spanish brick finish tiles. The two new chairs added to this space were in line with the existing furniture. The fabrics chosen were a rich Indian print and the cushions added to the existing furniture were from the same family. The art which was a real show stopper for this home and Shagun used a mix of art photography and the beautiful traditional Pichhwai art form. Each piece of art, carpets, fabrics and lighting has been thought through carefully and handpicked by Shagun.
The home is a very open format home especially the formal living space, dining area and the small study room and it was important for Interior DesiShagun Singh that each space told a story unique to it and yet merged together to blend it all to look cohesive. The Study room was probably the most important space which needed to merge in well. It’s also a space which is her formal work space and a space where she can lounge when needed.
Unlike the common areas the bedrooms are very modern and it was important for them to be functional yet spacious. The master bedroom, especially where the client wishes to spend some really quality time, had to be breezy, open and comfortable. So the color palette was kept very earthy and pastel and both for Shagun & the client the sheers that were hand picked for the master bedroom are probably the most favourite thing in this gorgeous home.
The large balconies have plants of which a lot of the old plants were transplanted as they have been with the client for years but just needed a better dress up. Since Shagun didn’t want to overcrowd the balconies but especially had to think of ways to give her privacy in the main balcony so she went with putting a high table with some of the biggest most beautiful plants to achieve the same.
ABOUT THE FOUNDER & INTERIOR DESIGNER:
Passion for interior designing led her to taking it up as a successful career
Homework, the brand was conceptualised by Shagun Singh who is the lead Interior Designer for the firm. She is a designer by passion and a hotelier by education. She comes from a fairly large and influential hoteliering family and perhaps some of the sensibility for design got instilled in her watching her mother and grandfather. On graduating from the Welcomgroup Graduate School of Hotel Administration where started her career with ITC Hotels in the Sales and Marketing Division where she worked actively from 2001 to 2008. In 2008 she joined her father’s firm AM Services 24×7 Pvt. Ltd where she continues to work today and introduced the brand of Homework to the firm. The parent firm was a small manpower solutions firm providing skilled manpower to a handful of corporate houses but once Shagun joined the firm she added big names to the firms’ portfolio like Cushman & Wakefield, GMR, JLL, ITC Hotels, Ballarpur Industries to name a few.
Whilst the parent firm continued to grow the challenge was neither exciting nor fulfilling for her and she needed to do something more, something she knew more about and could be more hands on but more importantly meet more people like herself. Homework came about to satiate that need of her’s and learn something new that finally led her to take on the role of an Interior Designer. She always loved keeping a beautiful space and from a young age was house proud,so doing up others spaces was a fun and exciting prospect that came naturally to her.
She considers her design sensibility to be contemporary classic – which means she always tries to keep some of the traditional aspects to merge in with the modern. She believes strongly that a home should be warm and inviting and should be able to tell a story that is unique.Having run cleaning services for so many years she knows how difficult it is to maintain and keep things looking as good as new. So while suggesting material and product finishes to clients she is always mindful to suggest easy to maintain and yet aesthetically beautiful things to her clients. The play of colors is something you will notice not so much through wall textures but through fabrics . India is a haven she believes in for some of the finest textures and designs in fabrics and making use of these in her projects in something you will always see.
Some of the projects done by Shagun Singh are are DLF Crest, DLF Belaire ,DLF ICON ,DLF Westend Heights,DLF Hamilton court ,Rail Vihar ,Palam vihar ,Windchants , Suncity and many more.
