Eternia, a manufacturer of WiWA-certified and Durnanium (patented aluminium alloy) doors and windows, has recently announced the development of a numerical framework for for effective aluminium window profile design. This breakthrough results from a collaborative study between Eternia and the prestigious IIT Delhi at its Higher Performance Computing (HPC) Facility.
Windows play a significant role in residential, commercial, and industrial buildings, significantly impacting indoor comfort, energy efficiency, and environmental impact. However, it is often ignored and not considered equally critical. While previous research has focused on aspects like thermal, visual, and acoustic comfort, there has been a lack of comprehensive studies analysing window performance against intense wind pressures, a critical factor determining safety and durability, especially in high-rise structures. This numerical framework promises to revolutionise the construction industry by enabling cost-effective design while ensuring safety, comfort, energy efficiency, and sustainability.
The study, conducted using advanced finite element analysis, presented a robust methodology to determine the maximum threshold wind load and identify potential failure regions for aluminium sliding windows. During the study, Eternia & IIT Delhi evaluated windows made from regular 6063 Aluminium alloy and its patented Duranium alloy, clearly establishing the supremacy of Duranium in protection against wind and cyclones. Duranium is a patented alloy from Eternia, Hindalco which offers superior strength, resultin in better performance against wind as demonstrated in this study.
Siddharth Shetty, Head-Technical, Eternia, Hindalco Industries Limited, Aditya Birla Group, said, “At Eternia, we are committed to driving innovation and sustainability in the construction industry, and that is why we invested in Duranium, an alloy that offers superior strength and performance. The study’s findings will have far-reaching implications for the building and construction sectors, enabling architects, engineers, and manufacturers to design and produce effective aluminium window profiles. This collaboration with IIT Delhi further strengthens our position in our pursuit of offering high-performance and eco-friendly window solutions. We look forward to working with experts and developing more such solutions.”
Eternia is a specialised product line offered by Hindalco, one of the world’s largest aluminium and copper manufacturers. Hindalco, which operates an entire chain of aluminium manufacturing facilities, is a flagship of the Aditya Birla Group.
