PROJECT DESCRIPTION
As we approach the end of summer, we’re inspired to take a look at the most dramatic pools designed by iconic global architecture firm out of Miami, Arquitectonica. The design firm has created some of the most memorable pools in architecturally significant buildings across the world’s hottest city – both for the sun and its real estate market – Miami.
Since the famous opening scene of Miami Vice, flying by The Atlantis on Brickell to witness the cut-out deck with red spiral staircase leading to a blue lagoon shaped Jacuzzi, their designs have captured our attention and dreams of taking a dip in these high-design waters.
Just down the street along Brickell Avenue rest two more of their prolific pools. At 500 Brickell, a larger cutout evolution of The Atlantis concept comes to life. A large circular pool is mirrored by a circular cut out on the roof, creating a shadow cast that works like a sundial, with full exposure midday. Across the street at Icon Brickell features the longest pool in the country. With one super long pool, followed by two adjacent dipping pools, it stretches longer than a football field. To support the weight of the pools and house the root system for the elaborate landscaping and trees that line the pool deck, they designed a substructure within the entire floor beneath.
Across town in Coconut Grove, Mr. C Residences’ upcoming rooftop pool structure is designed with an inherent connection to water and the culture of sailing and boating, taking cues from its Coconut Grove setting. Rooftop elements are architecturally designed with sweeping curvilinear gestures that address long-distance clarity, while offering access to both sun and shade.
Mr. C Residences is set to complete by early 2023.
